Un-Plugged For New Year's!

New Year’s Eve....Ten degrees and snowy...

Around 1:00 as we lounged, just finishing lunch ~ cookies in the oven ~ checking e-mail, facebook, and watching another episode of h.g.t.v. house hunters, (simultaneously) ~ our recreation was abruptly interrupted as silence fell over the condo—power outage or too much use of power?

Greg picked up the phone to call down to the front desk to inquire but the phone was dead – oops, forgot the phone is hooked up to the modem! Thankful for cell phones, he was able to contact them via android. “Yes sir, we are aware of the outage in part of the building and our engineers are looking into it now. We hope to have the power restored shortly.”

“O.k.” I thought...” “It’s time to get fully dressed (get out of my fleecies) in case we have to vacate for some reason.” I pulled on tights, warm socks and a couple extra layers for warmth and I settled back into my chair. Husband began to nod off in sitting position; dog curled up inside her warm blanket...all was very very calm! I realized that I was enjoying the sound of silence. Free from the hum of appliances, background noise and computer keyboards, along with visual ping pong from tablet to t.v. to texts, I was forced to realize there is life without electronic toys! Of course I could have used the tablet or droid, but turned them off to conserve their batteries (just in case).

I decided to take advantage of a great opportunity to sit quietly with the Good Book. Seriously friends, does it take a power outage to get us to slow down and open the bible for some “real-time” conversation with God? I guess that’s what it took for me today...a reminder that I need to plug in to The Actual Power Source!

I randomly opened up the word to 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verse 11 and beheld the direct word of God as it jumped off the page:

“MAKE IT YOUR AMBITION TO LEAD A QUIET LIFE"

I’m as serious as serious can be! This is exactly what I saw, heard and felt (simultaneously) with the noise removed and the peace of God speaking VOLUMES into my forcibly calmed soul!!!

Well then, let me read on because I know He has more to tell me and with all the clamor removed, I can hear Him LOUD AND CLEAR; SOFT AND GENTLE; STRONG AND POWERFUL; guiding my path into the year ahead ~~~

My New Years Resolution:
“MAKE IT MY AMBITION TO LEAD A QUIET LIFE!!!

THANKFUL FOR THE TRUE POWER SOURCE, I WAIT...PATIENTLY...AS I PLUG IN TO HIM AND RECHARGE!

“Be still in the presence of the Lord and wait patiently for him to act.”
Psalm 37:7 (a)

WISHING YOU A CALM YET POWERFUL NEW YEAR!

I never tire of the reminder to quiet myself, it really is only in those quiet moments that we can actually hear. I love this word for the New Year!!! There is so much that can be said for the demonstration of living a joyful quiet life to others, people long for that peace, that want to taste and see that it is good and it makes them hungry for it. I have been writing a New Year's post as well Bella, may not get out til the morning, we'll see how it goes...but my resolution for this year has to do with SPEAKING LIFE to those around me...more on that soon. Love and Miss you and wish you all the blessing your heart and hands can hold this coming year xoxo

Great reminder, Lorraine. I need to unplug, too. Here's to a year of listening to his still, small voice that is also described as the roar of mighty rushing water!

You are such a blessing to me. I think I got the message I needed more quiet too. I think sometimes all the external noise causes us to short circuit and forget what it is we really need to be focusing on. I'm looking forward to doing some hard thinking this month and refocusing my energies. WIshing you nothing but the best in the New Year.
Hugs,
-Gina-
p.s. I hope Santa brought you more fleecies, that snow looks mighty cold.

Welcome back to blogging, and with a great post. "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life." We have actually worked on that.

Hope your Christmas and New Years was great.

What a beautiful reminder to live a quiet life in this world of busy, busy, busy. You are a picture of beauty both in and out- and an example of quiet beauty the Lord calls us to. Thanks Lorraine!
