Remembering Freedom

N   E   V   E   R       F   O   R   G   E   T !

"Greater love hath no man than this,

that a man lay down his life for his friends."

(John 15:13)

Stars shine and stripes remind

The stars shine bright...

In the darkness of a foxhole,

Or in the glow of celebratory light…

By the fireworks we ignite.

Some forget just what happened

in the dead of night,

As the stripes remind us of their wounds,

And blood shed for freedom’s sake,

Today, as well as yesterday…

Make no mistake

Of the sacrifice they make,

While children play,

And music serenades,

As the marching band

Leads our parade...

Let us not forget,

Let us not delay,

Our gratitude to those

Whose coffins lay...

Draped in our flag while taps play.

Let's not hesitate to give thanks

And to celebrate...

The freedoms won by our strong and brave

Of every race and every age...

May we never forget the sacrifice they made.

We salute them now...as we bow

Our heads for grace,

And we take our place...

At the bountiful table

Preserved for us by a remembered face...

No greater love for freedom's sake!

Well said, Lorraine! I come from a unique perspective since my parents were both children in Europe during WWII (one in France, the other in Belgium). If not for those that served, I would not be. It's a simple as that. My gratitude to the men in our Armed Services is huge.

That's an amazing pie. :)

Living in a military community affords me many occasions to say "thanks" for the sacrifices made on my behalf. It truly is heart-warming to be the benefactor of such care and protection.

Blessed rest to you this weekend.

Thanks for slowing me down long enough to remember what this weekend is all about...after watching "Taking Chase" I don't want to forget.
The pie looks wonderful...I think we will have home made ice cream...haven't done that yet this year.

Oh we lived in Austin until 13 years ago and now we are in the Dallas area...Austin is home and that is why we were there for the pianos.

Such a beautiful post, Lorraine. We need to be reminded that we live in the greatest place on earth, where we can have our "voice" and our freedom of "speech"...not to mention that we need to appreciate our life, and the greatest nation on this planet.
Love the beautiful pie:DDD

This was a wonderful tribute to our fallen soldiers this Memorial Day. They sacrificed so we can sleep peacefully in our beds at night. Bless them.

Wow! I read it to myself, then I read it to my husband, and we both said, "Wow!" at the same time. You said it best..."while children play and the music serenades" we must not forget. Thank you beautiful Lorraine for this amazing reminder! And thank you to our beautiful families who release their loved ones to fight the freedom that they know must remain.

I made your wonderful pie over Memorial Day weekend...but I still need to tweak it before posting. I used fresh berries and not enough thickener...so it was more like soup! My hubby loved it, but I think I'll try again for the 4th. Thanks, again, for the beautiful inspiration :)

Hello Lovely lady,

Just dropping by to say hi, hope you had a restful Memorial day, enjoy your weekend:)

Yes, Lizzy! I think it's best w/the cherries and blueberries because they are already thicker but I'm looking forward to what you will come up with for the other berry mixture...I think any fresh berries would be wonderful with the right amount of thickening! Glad you like the recipe! :)

Hello Lorraine, feel like I know you already! Watched you on tv last nite with Joey F., cooking your Mom's Mediterranean Chicken recipe with quinoa. You were a natural! Loved it that you are a neat freak like me about cleaning up while cooking and washing your hands. It's appreciated very much. I was surprised that you cut veggies and chicken right in the pot, will have to try that. Well I'll close for now, but will tell you that I will check out your blog more often, since I hear you give your site on the show last nite. Bye, keep up the great work.
